Review: Unico Volumising Shampoo & Conditioner

Unico Volumising Shampoo and Conditioner

Want to know one of my many mottos? Life is too short for bad shampoo & conditioner! Ok, I made that up, but I do feel very strongly about the products I use to wash my hair, especially when I’m washing every day. The Unico Volumising Shampoo & Conditioner* are chemical free and designed specifically for the harsh Australian environment, plus the brand doesn’t test of animals and they encourage recycling on every bottle. Good to my hair and the environment!

Now I know that the jury’s out over whether ‘squeaky clean’ is really as good as your parents told you when you were a kid… but when you have fine, limp, oily hair like mine, nobody is going to convince me that squeaky clean is bad. It’s unpossible. So that’s why I’m rejoicing over these little green bottles! The shampoo is ideal for deep cleansing fine, flat hair, giving it a HUGE boost at the roots to help with volume, and the moisturiser is lavish enough to restore any moisture you may have stripped. The result? Happy and manageable hair.

The shampoo and conditioner both boast vitamins F and B5 to promote growth and reduce hair loss, which is something us fine-haired peeps crave. These are combined with cedarwood, orange and ylang ylang essential oils to stimulate the scalp, remove toxins and encourage faster growth. And for some reason, they both smell like licorice! I can’t figure out where it comes from, and it was a bit of a shock at first (I’m not a big licorice fan – unless we’re talking Darrell Lea Green Apple), but I’ve actually grown to like it. But just make sure you’re ok with licorice before you purchase!

Being such a great volumising range means that I do tend to only use these every 2-3 washes – and when I want a proper clarifying wash, I spend a good 60 seconds massaging the shampoo into my scalp to get right down to the roots. Not an everyday exercise, but at least once a week.

One particular thing I noticed was that these products are surprisingly good at reducing flyaways and frizz, so that when I allow my hair to dry naturally, it stays remarkably smooth. This is very handy in the warmer months (or when you’re escaping to QLD in the middle of winter!).

Unico offer a few specialised ranges: Volumising, Maintenance, Sensitive and Intensive, alongside a Protein Treatment, Hair Serum and Leave-In Spray, so there is definitely something for every hair type in there.
