Ah, summer. Long days in the sun, swimming at the beach, taking cover in air conditioned shopping centres. It’s a beautiful time of the year, but it plays havoc on your skin! So in swoops Jurlique, coming to the rescue with this little bottle of magic.
The Rosewater Balancing Mist* is one of their hero products, and it’s not hard to see why it’s so popular. It’s a refreshing mist that utilises some pretty kick-arse ingredients to hydrate and soften your skin, spritzing the goodness deep into your pores. Rose is combined with aloe vera to soften, soothe and calm; marshmallow and glycerin provide intense hydration and lock in moisture; and grapefruit seed provides antioxidant protection. It’s perfect for maintaining balance, and is ideal for normal/combination skin types.
The mist has a gorgeous, relaxing rose scent, made more modern with the infusion of marshmallow to soften it, so that you don’t get that overpowering old-lady smell that can sometimes be associated with rose-scented products. It’s deliciously dewy, giving you a fresh burst of roses and a boost to your psyche. It relaxes and centres you (without any sarcasm or hippy-dippy-ness, it really does calm you down, I promise!).
I did attempt to use this as a toner, after cleansing and before moisturiser, but unfortunately the ingredients are a tad too indulgent for my sensitive skin and it caused me to break out. So instead I’ve been using it to set my make-up, or throughout the day as a refreshing spritz – it’s especially good if you work in an office all day, to give your face a pick-me-up in the afternoon. Simply close your eyes and spritz your face, easy. If you want to use this as a toner, you could also try spraying onto your hands and pressing onto your face. And on super hot days, pop in in the fridge – heaven!
Jurlique have also started releasing an Intense Deluxe Edition annually, beginning in 2012. It’s a 200ml bottle, which therefore has a higher price point; the 2013 bottle was RRP $69 – but each purchase donates funds to the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME), so it’s worth it. And the Deluxe Edition uses over 10,000 rose petals in every bottle – talk about intense! I was lucky enough to win their 2013 bottle last year from First World Beauty Problems (it’s basically the prettiest thing I own!), and their next Deluxe Edition will be released in July this year. I can’t wait to see what it looks like!
