The good:
I was lucky enough to get my hands on these Lemon Meringue Pie & Tropical soap bars* from Cleanse With Benefits (best name ever, by the way!), an Australian business that produces delectable artisan handmade soap bars using sustainable sources, no palm oil or chemical nasties, and the very best locally sourced ingredients. They are moisturising and long-lasting with no excessive lather – and just so much fun to use!

The Lemon Meringue Pie is from their Artisan range, and the Tropical is part of their limited edition Spring/Summer 2013 range.

They are unfortunately not edible, but don’t they look delicious?! That’s because they are handmade using the cold process method – which involves creating the soap completely from scratch, not just adding fragrance to a base. This means that CWB are able to use 100% natural ingredients, such as olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter and cocoa butter, and each soap has a list of ingredients that you will recognise – and nothing that sounds like it belongs in a test tube!

The Lemon Meringue Pie soap bar definitely looks more impressive, but the Tropical soap bar wins in terms of smell – it reminds me of a Sherbies lolly! (for the non-Aussies, it’s an orange flavoured lolly with a fizzy sherbet centre) It’s not overpowering when you use it, and it doesn’t linger afterwards.

The bad:
The only disappointment for me was the smell of the Lemon Meringue Pie – it has a slightly lemon scent, but definitely not the overpowering sickly lemon scent I was hoping for; it’s more soapy than lemon. Although I guess it’s because the lemon meringue pies I normally eat are full of preservatives, and not real ingredients!

And the packaging:
I love the brown wrapping they use around each bar of soap – it’s sophisticated and stays in line with the handmade aspect. And it leaves the top of the soap bar exposed, which is where most of them look the most impressive (especially those that have ‘whipped cream’ on top).

* Update *
I got so wrapped up in the gorgeous soaps above, I forgot that I also wanted to mention – Cleanse With Benefits also do soap cupcakes, skinny soap bars (80g) and a range of homemade skincare products – all of which are just as cute!
