Review: Australis ‘Tint My Brow’

Australis Tint My Brow

The good:
I love that bold eyebrows are in right now (thank you Lucy Hale and Lily Collins!), because mine are generally quite thick and unruly – I don’t do much except pluck strays and occasionally see the local Indian beautician to get them threaded. And after having my makeup done professionally recently, I began to appreciate the art of filling in my brows – but a proper brow kit seemed like too much work. So when Ash blogged about the new Australis brow tint, I had to get my hands on it. An easy way to have fuller, more defined brows? Yes please!

The ‘Tint My Brow’ comes in three different shades: Blonde, Light Brown and Dark Brown. Given that my eyebrows are black, I went with the Dark Brown. It’s pretty much a mascara-style spoolie brush, as you can see in the photo below, and you simply swipe it over your brows. it provides colour, coverage and control, with the formula setting your brows into place – and they last an entire day, even in 34° heat!

I find that it balances my face, especially when wearing lipstick – and it has fast become my favourite beauty product. I tried leaving the house this morning with bare brows, but I just couldn’t. I mean, it’s so damn easy to use that there’s really no excuse to leave the house without applying it.

Just look at the difference it makes – it grabs even the smallest hairs, emphasising my arch and making everything more defined. I also feel that the colour adds another dimension to my sparse, black brows; they look warmer somehow.

The bad:
I’m not sure if the formula is too runny, or if the suction is too weak when you pull the brush out, but you end up with quite a lot of product on the brush. This can make it difficult to apply because you end up with more tint on your skin than on your actual brows. I have to scrape excess product into the tube, and then apply very gently.

And the packaging:
I love that it’s a simple mascara design, and the tube is the perfect size for my makeup bag – however there is no mention anywhere of capacity, but I’m going to say it looks like no more than 10ml. Which is fine for the bargain price of $9.95 – especially when Benefit’s comparison product, ‘Gimme Brow‘, is going for a whopping $32.00!

And while I understand that they were going for the whole ‘Pimp My Ride‘ thing with their ‘Tint My Brow’ logo, it’s hideously daggy and almost put me off buying the product completely.

  • Mands

I love this. I never knew it existed.
Looks great on you and really defines. I need to get me some stat! Great review, thanks!

  • Thanks for the mention lovely! It’s such a wonderful product, and looks great on you! xo

  • Sounds interesting. I’d love to try it xx

  • can definitely see the difference, the right one looks fuller but not sure is $32 justifies it or . Well mine are thick and black so unfortunately the brow tinting department kind of doesn’t exist for me

    • That’s the price for the Benefit one – the Australis Tint My Brow is a measly $9.95! And my eyebrows are black but can look a bit sparse so this really helps define them.

  • I can’t say I’ve ever looked at a before and after pic and thought to myself I absolutely have to try this product. I have really similar brows to yours both in description and appearance. I might actually go and pick this up tomorrow. Thanks for sharing 🙂

    • What a lovely comment – thank you so much! And I hope you manage to find this, I’d never realised what a difference a brow tint could actually make. For only $9.95 you can’t go wrong 😉 make sure to let me know what you think of it once you’ve used it x

  • This looks amazing! I fill in my brows with powder, but I think this would be nice to try so I don’t look so matte (does that make sense? Hm).

Excellent review, can’t wait until it’s available in my area! (So slow here :(..)

    • … I was going to make a joke about Queenslanders being slow, but decided to be nice 😉 plus I’ll be in QLD for Christmas, my parents just bought in Hervey Bay!

Although I’m a brow newbie, and don’t have anything to compare this to, it does everything I want in a brow product, so I definitely recommend it!

  • This looks so good! Haha, totally agree with the logo! Im quite lazy when it comes to my brows so this would be so quick and easy to incorporate into my regime!

    • I love Australis so much – but the logo, ugh! And yeah it’s super easy, takes me less than a minute to do my brows and then out the door!

  • I bought this in the blonde over the weekend and I love, love, love it! I have terribly faint eyebrows and pay about $15 to get them professionally tinted (the tint fades over about a month, too), but I’m not going to do that anymore for sure.

I actually don’t mind the logo and its reference; I think Australis is doing a good job of linking to a contemporary reference through this for a bit of fun.

    • It’s so affordable and does everything you want it to! So glad you’re a fan.

And I think the logo is a totally individual thing. Pimp My Ride stopped filming 7 years ago so I guess it just reminds me of being a daggy 16 year old 😉
