Review: A’kin Orange Blossom and Chamomile Refreshing and Soothing Toner

Akin Orange Blossom and Chamomile Toner

The good:
Confession time – I haven’t used a toner since I was in high school (for those of you new here, that was almost 10 years ago now). My mum used to buy some heavy duty astringent that stung my face. It pretty much stripped my skin of all oils, which – being an ignorant teenager – I thought was just the thing for oily skin! Ha, how things have changed!

When Priceline were having 40% off skincare, I figured I’d give toner a second chance. With words like ‘refreshing’, ‘soothing’ and ‘hydrates’, this bottle of toner from A’kin won me over. It uses a botanical combination of orange blossom, chamomile, witch hazel and vitamin B5 to tone, sooth and refresh skin. It is gentle enough for the most sensitive of skin. It wipes away excess oils & make up and shrinks the appearance of pores, allowing moisturiser to absorb easily. It has quickly become a must-have for me, as it balances the oils in my skin.

The scent is very essential oil-y (totally a phrase) and if I use it at night my boyfriend comments on how clean my face smells! It is also paraben and sulfate free, and not tested on animals, so it’s good for the skin and the soul.

The bad:
Dare I say it – this toner is almost too gentle! This could be because I still think of toner as paint-stripper though…

And the packaging:
It was the packaging that attracted me to this in the first place. It just looks so healthy and herbal. The slimline bottle is a good size and you don’t need to use too much at a time.

Is toner a vital part of your skincare regime? Or were you put off it from a similarly skin-tingling experience as a teen..?
