On Trend: Metallics

What’s the best way to take metallics from winter to summer? Lighten up! Go for bronze tones that give your spring beauty a bit more oomph. They draw attention to your favourite features, and always encourage compliments. My favourite metallics right now are the Australis Metallix Eyeshadow in Gold Gaga, and the ulta3 Metallic Cream Eyeliners* in Bronze and Black. These are both easy to use and heavily pigmented, plus they’re super affordable too!

The Australis Metallix Eyeshadow has a whipped consistency, making it easy to pick up using your finger or a brush, and limits waste. The exact colour changes depending on lighting. I’d describe it as a rose gold, but the multi-tonal pigments mean it can go from bronze to dusty pink to gold. Definitely multifunctional! Being a cream means that it does crease on my oily lids, even when I use primer, but the colour payoff is so worth it.

The ulta3 Metallic Cream Eyeliners are also surprisingly vibrant. They glide on smoothly, applying colour without tugging on the skin. I find that they have fairly good staying power when used with primer, and especially if I smudge them out a bit. The only issue I can forsee with these is that they would get messy towards the end, whether you try sharpening them or not. I think a twist function would increase usability.

I used the Australis eyeshadow and the ulta3 eyeliner in black to create my very own metallics party look recently. You can see how gold the eyeshadow is in certain light, and what great coverage it gives:

Keep the glow going by jumping on the strobing bandwagon! I recommend using Innoxa Skin Perfecting 5 in 1 Illuminating BB Creme as a base. Luminous spheres, skin correcting pigments and specialised extracts work together to repair your skin and restore radiance, offering a youthful, dewy glow without looking oily. Feel free to mix it with your moisturiser/foundation if you want to tone it down a notch, as it can be quite sparkly, especially if you use it in the day! It can also be used as a highlighter to emphasise the high points on your face.

The CROP Natural Mineral Pressed Highlighter* is perfect to draw attention to your cheekbones and eyebrow bones, encouraging the light to linger on these delicate areas. The quad style offers different looks, and the powder is enriched with vitamins E & A, tourmaline and zinc oxides to soothe, hydrate and reduce/repair fine lines and redness.
