MUD Make-Up Design // beauty on a budget

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably seen the MUD Make-Up Design range at your local Woolies, but thought it was too good to be true. With the whole range priced between $3 – $12, this is a fair assumption, but one MUD are trying to beat! Their focus is on creating fashion forward, seasonal products that won’t break the bank. Be on trend and try a whole new look for under $40.

Last year I was invited to attend a New Product Development (NPD) session for MUD Make-Up Design. They were busy creating their 2017 new releases, and wanted to collaborate with like-minded makeup lovers. They demonstrated the full NPD process, from conceptualisation through the the products appearing on shelves, and then gave us the opportunity to trial some of their product samples. We were able to give our honest feedback, and help shape the range, all while being treated to a delicious breakfast. (Blogging events  & collaborations make up for all the lonely hours spent staring at a computer screen!)

There were a few key products that I fell in love with – two from their core range, and two that were released in January this year.

1. Colour Correcting Concealer*

The ultra-creamy formula expertly evens out skin tone and hides imperfections, proving easy to blend and not too thick. The colours might look scary if you haven’t tried colour correcting before, but for $8 you’ll never look back! The green is designed to reduce redness, the purple to reduce dullness or yellow undertones, and the peach is a saviour for brightening under the eyes and eliminating dark circles.

With concealers, it’s always best to apply with your fingers. This warms the product, and makes blending a breeze. The formula for all 3 colours in the palette feels identical – they’re smooth and creamy, with minimal pull as you blend. The perfect product to create a flawless base!

2. Hydrating CC Cream SPF30*

So obviously I’m a big fan of colour correcting. It’s seriously the easiest way to look like you’ve made an effort & eaten all your fruit and veg, when you’ve probably gotten ready in 10 minutes after watching Netflix on the couch all day, binging on chips… oh come on, that’s not just me!

Luckily, MUD Make-Up Design understand our lives, and are here to save us from ourselves! This CC Cream corrects redness, blurs imperfections, brightens and primes. It’s lightweight and oil-free, providing medium coverage with a pleasantly sweet scent. It’s just a super easy product that does exactly what it promises! I find myself reaching for this on a daily basis, as it also boasts SPF30 to protect my skin from sun damage & ageing. But be warned, a little bit goes a long way!

3. Gel Look Nail Colour in Peachy Keen & Lavender Bliss*

After saying goodbye to actual gel polish (my poor, brittle nails couldn’t cope with the removal process!), I was over the moon to find nail polish that looks & feels like gel – without the hassle! The thick brush ensures even, non-streaky coverage, and the colour is just as intense on your nails as it is in the bottle.

It only takes 2 coats to create a glossy, long-lasting gel appearance, and I can go 2-3 days without chipping! Ok, that might not sound impressive, but trust me, that’s a long time for these weak nails.

And the colours! Peachy Keen is a no-brainer for me, as I love a good pink, but I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by how much I’m enjoying Lavender Bliss. It’s so soft and calming, and I find myself reaching for it a lot more than I expected! Plus, I always get compliments with this one 😉

4. Flawless Finish Liquid Foundation*

Finally, it’s hard to go past the #1 bestselling foundation in Woolworths! Beating out some much bigger names, this little bottle packs a big punch. The full-coverage formula gives the ultimate ‘me but better’, blurring fine lines and imperfections to give you an undeniable glow. It feels fresh & breathable, and blends without looking cakey.

My oily/combination skin does need setting powder on top, otherwise I find it gets too shiny, but the coverage is top notch & the shades are so versatile. And as it turns out, MUD have recently released a Long Lasting Foundation, which might be better for all-day wear. Let me know if you’ve tried it!
