Dr Roebuck’s TONE, POLISH and PURE

Dr Roebuck's Skincare Polish Tone Pure

All families have their secrets, but the Roebuck’s definitely hit the jackpot with theirs! It began 30 years ago, when two Australian physicians combined their clinical and practical knowledge to create their own formula for effective and safe skincare. This formula was passed down to their twin daughters, Kim and Zoë, who used it to launch Dr Roebuck’s in 2010, a specially created line of therapeutic and gentle skincare.

Dr Roebuck’s TONE*  (180ml $29.95)
This alcohol-free toner is perfect for everyday use, tightening and soothing even the most sensitive of skin. The list of ingredients is surprisingly natural, containing water, witch hazel, aloe vera, grapefruit oil and peppermint oil, all of which work together to clean the pores, control oil production and cool the skin. The only chemical assistance comes from glycolic acid, a powerful AHA that assists the natural exfoliation process , and polysorbate-20, which helps the fragrance oils mix into the toner without separating. These create a mildly astringent toner, which alleviates irritation and reduces redness, calming the skin whilst removing excess residue. For extra freshness, I like to keep TONE in the fridge, as it gives my skin an extra boost when applied cold!

Dr Roebuck’s POLISH* (50ml $39.95)
This dual purpose deep cleansing mask and non-abrasive exfoliant removes dead skin cells to reveal revitalised and radiant skin – and it has fast become one of my holy grail products. I’m obsessed! It’s gentle enough that you could class it as an EE cream, with kaolin clay and jojoba beads to draw out toxins and clear the skin without harsh scrubbing. It also boasts vitamin E, white tea extracts and macadamia oil to regenerate the skin and neutralise nasty free radicals. You just apply a generous layer to the face, leave for 2-3 minutes (which is heaven, thanks to the delightful peppermint scent!), gently massage and then rinse off with warm water – or you can remove with TONE. I’ve even used this with my facial cleansing brush on days when my skin is feeling particularly clogged, and it still manages to buff my skin perfectly, with no dryness or irritation. My only complaint is that they don’t make it in a bigger tub!

Dr Roebuck’s PURE* (100ml $44.95)
This is the cornerstone of Dr Roebuck’s – the original formulation, with no perfumes or chemical additives, reducing the chance of reaction for sensitive or problem skin. It instantly replenishes hydration levels by sealing moisture into the skin – which in turn increases skin elasticity. PURE has a very thick consistency, making it perfect for people with dry, sensitive or damaged skin. My oily/combination skin wasn’t the best test subject for this formula, especially during summer, but I did use it on my knees and elbows, and they have never been smoother! It’s fast-absorbing and non-greasy, and a little bit goes a long way. And if you’re struggling to massage it in completely, don’t worry! It’s actually recommended to apply it so that a white layer is still visible on the skin, as your skin will absorb it naturally within a matter of minutes. My skin feels hydrated and surprisingly matte after doing this, so you can moisturise at night without worrying about leaving a greasy residue on your pillow.

Twin sisters Kim and Zoe Dr Roebuck's skincare range

My only real complaint here is the use of medical abbreviations on the packaging. I understand the logic behind it, and it definitely helps with the pharmaceutical feel of the products, but I had to google them to make sure of their meanings, which shouldn’t be a requirement before using skincare!

TONE: apply top. q.s ad lib. pm = apply topically, a sufficient quantity, as much as one desires, in the evening *
POLISH: apply top. t.i.w. = apply topically, three times a week
PURE: apply top. b.i.d ad lib = apply topically, twice daily, as much as one desires

Dr Roebuck’s has grown from 20 stores globally to 600 in the last 12 months, and you can now find this gorgeous range in Priceline stores nationally.

* While TONE can definitely be used morning or night, if you are only going to use it once a day, Dr Roebuck’s recommend that using it in the afternoon/evening would give the best result.
