Want to know the secret to beautiful, youthful skin? Australian company Delmedica have the answer, and it lies in a combination of clinical-grade, active ingredients and a simple, effective delivery system. They’ve designed a three-step anti-ageing process to cleanse, revitalise and restore your skin. They work in sync with each other to produce maximum benefits – step 1 preps the skin for step 2, and step 2 removes the outer layer so that step 3 can replenish the skin. Simple and effective!
As easy as 1, 2, 3
The Delmedica 3-Step System begins with the Surface and Deep Pore Cleanser*. This is a mint-green gel that foams with water, cutting through dirt, oil and impurities. It’s recommended to use 5-7 days before you perform Step 2, to prepare your skin for the chemical treatment. The active ingredients in this are particularly helpful to eliminate acne, blackheads and enlarged pores. I find it quite mild, with a fresh tea tree scent, and it leaves my skin clean yet slightly taut – you definitely need a moisturiser after using this. It’s also perfect to use after performing Step 2, as it helps with irritation and seems to speed up the peel process.
Then, time to up the ante with the Skin Resurfacing and Brightening Peel*, which is undoubtedly the star of this process! The tub contains 50 pre-soaked cotton pads, formulated with a medical grade, moderate-strength chemical peel, that you slowly swipe across the skin (face, neck, knees, heels – this works everywhere). To tailor it to your skin’s needs, simply vary the duration of time the peel is on the skin. I have super sensitive skin, so the first time I used this I had to wash it off after only 20 seconds. But by the fifth time using it, my skin had already built up a tolerance, and I can leave it on for a full minute now, with only mild discomfort towards the end.
The peel does exactly what it says – it peels. Around 2-3 days after using the wipes, you start to peel like you’ve had really bad sunburn! So make sure you don’t have plans to be anywhere fancy, and wear SPF30+ daily. Oh, and word of advice – don’t be a numpty and use the wipes without wearing disposable gloves, like I did the first time! Wrinkly, peeling fingers are not a good look…
The final step is the Hydration and Anti-Wrinkle Cream*, which is an unassuming but super-powerful anti-ageing moisturising cream. A little bit goes a long way, and using it directly after Step 3 maximises absorption of the active ingredients. It has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, protecting your skin and giving it that youthful glow. My skin simply laps it up, and it definitely helps reduce the peeling from Step 2. It is the most expensive in the pack though (coming in at a whopping $129.95), and honestly, on my everyday budget, I wouldn’t be able to justify that price for the results.
Getting active with your skincare
AHAs and BHAs such as glycolic acid, salycilic acid and mandelic acid are used in all three Delmedica products to break down and exfoliate dead skin cells. They work together to unclog pores, boost collagen production and enhance penetration of other active ingredients. This is the stuff that makes your skin to tingle, as they get a little deeper than off-the-shelf ingredients!
What about the active ingredients specific to each Delmedica product?
Step 1 utilises a blend of tea tree, green tea and cucumber to soothe and invigorate the skin, cleansing the skin while protecting from inflammation and free radicals.
Step 2 is by far the most potent, for obvious reasons! While relying on the AHAs and BHAs mentioned above, it also employs the benefits of arginine, glutamine and rooibos, boosting blood and nutrient supply to the skin and improving skin texture.
Step 3 contains a unique mix of retinol, matrixyl 3000, argireline and hyaluronic acid, which assist to reverse skin ageing by stimulating the creation of fresh skin cells, relaxing facial muscles and returning elasticity and fullness.
The only negative I experienced was with Step 2, where I ended up scratching my face by being too heavy-handed. Remember – these pads are not normal cotton pads. You need to be very gentle, and wipe them slowly over the skin. You’re not using them to cleanse or exfoliate, the active ingredients do that for you. Happy to say I haven’t scratched myself since slowing down, so it was just a learning process for this chemical peel newbie!
Overall, I’ve been so impressed with the Delmedica products. I was a little skeptical of such high grade ingredients, and how they would react with my skin, but the results speak for themselves. My skin is clearer and I’ve experienced less breakouts and irritation since using these products. There has also been a marked reduction in visible sebaceous filaments on my nose, which was an unexpected benefit! The wipes have a 12 month expiry on them, so I’ll definitely continue to use them until I run out – and if I’m still feeling the way I do now about them, I’d repurchase in a heartbeat!
