Day & Night: Bespoque skin care + John Plunkett Collagen Lift Moisturiser

Bespoque John Plunkett Collagen Lift Moisturisers skincare Australian Made Owned

There are a lot of things that I love about getting older. Confidence, freedom, wine. I’m much happier as an adult than I was as a teenager – I wouldn’t be 16 again for all the money in the world. However, I’m also at an age where my skin has started throwing curve-balls my way. It used to be sensitive and oily (very oily). Then, it slowly moved towards sensitive and combination. Now, if I forget to moisturise regularly, I get dry patches. Come on, make up your mind! So I have had to alter my skincare routine in order to adapt, and am now using a light, hydrating moisturiser in the morning and a heavy duty moisturiser at night. My two favourites at the moment: my custom-made Bespoque moisturiser* to get me through the day, and the John Plunkett Collagen Lift Moisturiser* to rehydrate while I sleep.

Day
The hottest word of the moment has to be ‘bespoke’. Everyone wants something exclusive and tailor made, and we all want to feel special. Launched in June, Bespoque skincare is revolutionising the beauty industry by allowing customers to walk into their local Terry White chemist (note: only available in selected stores) and create a custom-made face cream in-store within minutes. You simply select the skin concerns that matter to you on the interactive display, and the unique formula is made to order while you wait. You can even choose a colour for the label, and give it a name. Customisation has reached a whole new level.

There are two base options: Light & Hydrating or Rich & Nourishing. Both are free from parabens, sulphates, lanolin and artificial colouring. You can then choose your fragrance: Floriade, Rainforest, or fragrance-free. I went with Light & Hydrating for my base, and Floriade for my fragrance, and then tailored the ingredients to my specific skin concerns. There are almost half a million possible combinations, and the staff at Bespoque painstakingly tested every single combination over the course of a year to make sure that they all worked, and that none of them would cause any unwanted reactions. Now that’s dedication!

I was excited to get my own tailor-made moisturiser, but at the same time worried that I may have been too keen and ticked too many boxes. I suffer from severe FOMO and struggled to narrow my selection down to my exact skin concerns. It was very tempting to just tick everything! So I would caution people to only select the concerns that really matter to you. Otherwise you’ll end up at the top end of the price range, and it probably won’t address the issues you want it to. But mine ended up in the middle of their $36.95 – $69.95 price range, and I have actually been pleasantly surprised with it.

The main concerns I wanted it to attack was oily skin/acne and the beginnings of fine lines. As a result of using this, my skin feels smoother and more hydrated, and the best part is that it controls oil and eliminates those pesky dry patches. The unique formula can also be updated and adapted as my skin continues to change, which is an incredibly clever move as it encourages brand loyalty and acts as a one-stop-shop for face cream.

Night
After you’ve washed off the day’s makeup & grime, the next step is possibly one of the most important decisions you will make all day. Because your skin has a good 6-8 hours (depending on your sleeping habits!) to rejuvenate, so you want to make the most of this time by putting your skin to work. Especially in winter, when you can get away with using a much heavier moisturiser. So I have found myself reaching for John Plunkett’s Collagen List moisturiser, a deliciously creamy formula that plumps and firms skin while I snooze. It also comes with a free sample of the JP Glyco Peel, a night exfoliator that is applied to the skin before moisturising, suitable for all skin types.

I first used this moisturiser approximately 7 months ago, and my skin wasn’t entirely sure about it. However, now that it’s colder, my skin is really appreciating the rich ingredients. It boasts Matrixyl 3000, which stimulates natural collagen production, improving skin elasticity and reducing wrinkles. It also uses Hyaluronic Acid, an ingredient plenty of people are familiar with due to the popularity of Indeed Labs Hydraluron, which boosts hydration from below the surface.  Alongside these, we have Avocado and Rosehip oils, rich in vitamins A & C and perfect for softening the skin.

The difference in my skin when I wake up in the morning is definitely visible – it’s plumper and more hydrated – but I would think these results would be far more significant for someone with dry or ageing skin, as it claims to leave skin looking visibly younger, with wrinkles reduced by 45% with 2 months of regular use. As for the scent, I can’t really put my finger on it – my attempt would be something along the lines of ‘buttery malt’, which I realise sounds odd, but it’s the best I can come up with. It’s delicious, but in  a cosmeceutical way.

Both of these tubs weigh in at a generous 50ml/50g (which I believe are the same in this instance, right?) and unlike others I have tried, go down quite deep – there’s nothing worse than hitting pan after a handful of uses, and the style of these tubs can often be quite deceiving. But you don’t need to worry about that with either of these!

Have you tried either of these creams? And do you use different products for day and night?
