I was lucky enough to meet Barbara Filokostas, the founder of Botani, at the recent Priceline Beauty Prescription. She talked with so much passion about her brand, and her desire to nurture the skin through pure, plant based ingredients. With core brand vales of purity, simplicity and integrity, you can’t help but be inspired!
Barbara’s Greek heritage and interest in naturopathy lead her to the deceptively humble olive – an ingredient that inspired her interest in skincare, and plays a central role in the Botani range. The pip of the olive produces a lipid called squalene, which is something our skin naturally contains, but diminishes over time. Olive squalene mimics the skin’s natural squalene, providing extreme hydration and cell rejuvenation. So it’s no wonder Botani’s Olive Skin Serum* is the hero of their range!
Providing instant hydration in only 3-4 drops, this miracle serum has quickly become my go-to. It’s lightweight and has only a faint olive scent – I’d describe it as more nutty than anything else. Which is good for me because I’m not a huge olive fan!
It has just four ingredients, with 99.7% pure olive squalene playing the biggest role, enriched with Vitamins E & C. Besides increasing moisture levels, it also reduced the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, combats dry skin and acts as a natural primer – making it perfect for use during the day. And as a bonus, it’s perfect for skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and rosacea, reducing symptoms and clearing breakouts.
Botani have also used olive squalene in their Boost Balancing Moisturiser* the perfect accompaniment to the serum. This non-greasy, fast-absorbing lotion provides 24-hour hydration, while protecting your skin from harsh environmental factors. Formulated with anti-bacterial ingredients, such Australian Lemon Scented Tea Tree Oil and Echinacea, it also works wonders for blemish prone skin – or that monthly hormonal breakout! Plus it’s great as an after-shave, because the non-irritating formula balances excess oil and doesn’t clog the pores.
A little bit goes a long way with the moisturiser, with one pump providing more than enough for your face and neck. I’ve been using this morning & night, and my skin is noticeably smoother and brighter, with a slight reduction in the pigmentation on my cheeks.
But I have to admit, my favourite product from the Botani range has nothing to do with the olive. I’ve fallen head over heels for the Exfoliating 2 in 1 Scrub & Mask*! The hero ingredient in this is the Australian Quandong Berry, and the scent – oh my! It’s an intoxicating caramel-berry scent, with a hint of citrus. Ridiculously delicious. Next time you’re in Priceline, you need to pick this up. One sniff and you’ll be hooked!
And the benefits? As a scrub, it gently exfoliates and cleanses, refining skin and removing dead skin cells. The inclusion of quandong extract works as a safe and natural AHA, providing additional exfoliation to rejuvenate the skin and target pesky blackheads. This leaves your face soft and refreshed, without stripping your skin of natural oils. Plus they use jojoba spheres as an alternative to micro beads, making it safe for the environment as well! And as a mask, it draws impurities from the skin, tightening and brightening to achieve a radiant glow. I was sceptical at first as to how well it would work as a mask, but it dried to a paste within 5 minutes, and my skin felt so soft once I washed it off.
I’m so glad I discovered this brand. It’s so understated, I almost hadn’t noticed it on shelves, but boy do the Botani products pack a punch! And the 100% Australian made & owned range is vegan, certified organic, cruelty free and eco-friendly, making it a good-karma choice when shopping for skincare.
Botani is bringing the Greek goodness down under! Have you tried their Olive Skin Serum yet?
